The Walk… Not so bad

It's a cold rainy day at MTA, and of course this is the day they choose to have us outside. I’m not happy about it obviously, because I hate the cold, and the rain. Mrs. MacMichael takes us for a walk down a path, it seems to take forever, but maybe that’s just because I wasn’t in the best mood that day.  As we walk I’m grumbling under my breath about how this day is going to be horrible, and how I wish I could just go home. We walk and walk and walk for what seems like forever. As we walk I start to see things in nature, and I actually start to appreciate them.

Once we are almost do the end of the trail I see this little blue flower, a blue flower sitting all by itself in the cold, wet soil. So I picked it up and put it into my bag to start the day. As we started to walk a little farther down the trail I began to notice little things. Like a small purple pebble. It looked so lonely there by itself in all the leaves I decided to take it out of it’s misery and place it in my bag next to the flower.

As we start to get closer to the river we start seeing rocks. They start thin, then they get thicker, and thicker, until we reach the river. It’s like a rock paradise. All around me there are rocks of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Out of the corner of my eye I see a little pile of rocks, off to the side and far away from the river. They are all little and white. They looked peaceful there by themselves, so I decided to grab just one, and place it next to the flower and the purple pebble.

We finish up the day in the cafeteria as a class. Everyone looks around at each other’s things, comparing what we have, to what they have. Most people had bags filled with things, just completely filled to the top, but I’m happy enough with my three items, because they actually had a purpose, not just so I could finish an assignment. I take a look at my little blue flower, my purple pebble, and my little white rock, and smile. I think to myself, “so maybe today wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be”.
