Missionary service set
      KINGFIELD -- The First Baptist Church in Kingfield will not be holding its regular services on Sunday, Nov. 2. Instead, the congregation will be joining with King's Valley Chapel at 10 a.m. for a special missionary presentation from Larry and Melissa Strout, whom both churches support.

New Trooper on the block
     Maine State Trooper Josh Birmingham has been with the State Police since 2004. Before coming to Troop C in Skowhegan where he patrols Somerset and Franklin counties, he was with Troop F in Aroostock County. Birmingham received a degree in criminal justice from the University of Maine at Presque Isle and the State Police Academy in 2004. Birmingham and his wife, Maria, live in Farmington. Selectmen promote to fill positions
      KINGFIELD -- The selectmen met on Monday, Oct, 20 and the first order of business was to discuss the Town Clerk/Collector's position. Selectmen said that Town Clerk Stacie-Marie Rundlett had turned in her resignation. Reportedly, Rundlett accepted another positions as Town Manager for the Town of New Portland.

Treatment required for Canadian firewood
      WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service recently issued a federal order, effective immediately, requiring heat treatment for shipments of all firewood made of hardwood species entering the United States from Canada.

Old South Church cookin' it up
      FARMINGTON -- The Old South First Congregational Church, UCC, on Main St, will hold its annual Harvest Supper on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 5 to 6 p.m. The buffet-style public supper will feature delicious roast turkey and ham with all the fixings including beverages and homemade pies for dessert.
