(Laura Dunham photo) LEXINGTON TOWNSHIP — An Anson woman employed in Kingfield received multiple injuries in a single-vehicle accident late Thursday afternoon on Route 16 in Lexington Township near the New Portland line.
According to the investigating officer, Maine State Trooper Randy Keaton of Troop C in Skowhegan, Kasean Dunphy, 22, of Anson, was operating a 2008 Chevy Cobalt and traveling south on Route 16 when something distracted her making Dunphy leave the road go into a ditch. Dunphy was ejected from the car through a window and then the car rolled onto her once, said Keaton. Also in the vehicle was a small Boxer dog, "Tidbit," who ran from the scene.
NorthStar Ambulance Service responded to the scene taking Dunphy to Franklin Memorial Hospital where she was later transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
The Dunphy vehicle received substantial damage, said Keaton.
Dunphy was employed by Carrabassett Coffee Company in Kingfield and according to the co-owner Steve Skaling, she re- ceived multiple injuries. On Saturday another co-owner of the coffee company, Tom Hildreth, said that relatives of Dunphy had put out a quilt at the scene of the accident hoping that the dog would come back. Skaling also put out posters around town about the lost dog who was about one year old.
Hildreth arrived at the scene of the accident and retrieved about $1,000 of coffee from the Dunphy vehicle. Dunphy was on her way to deliver the coffee in Waterville.
"The best part of the story," said Hildreth, was that on Saturday Dunphy was expected to be discharged from the hospital and on Friday at about noon Tidbit was discovered on the quilt beside the road. "For once," said Hildreth, "it was a happy ending."
Also helping at the scene of the accident was Maine State Trooper Josh Birmingham, and members of the New Portland and Kingfield fire departments who helped with traffic control.
