Phillips subdivision ordinance input wanted

2008-10-29 / Letters

To the editor:

On Thursday, Oct. 23, the town of Phillips held a special town meeting. The meeting was to enact an updated Subdivision Ordinance that was to replace the 1976 subdivision ordinance that the town was currently following. At the meeting, many residents expressed concerns with the new ordinance. Discussion was held concerning how to approach the concerns of the citizens and how to amend the ordinance. Selectman Eric Kinney suggested that the group get together and submit changes to the planning board. What the town officials did not want to see was someone coming in every week or month with a new proposal change to the subdivision ordinance.

The residences passed the ordinance unanimously.

After the meeting, I approached the chairman of the planning board and queried her on how to approach getting people together to submit their concerns as a onetime movement. I asked her if she was opened to my recruitment of obtaining feedback and changes from the townspeople, and I would then meet with the board to present the citizens changes. She embraced the idea.

So, to all of Phillips town citizens who attended the meeting and expressed concerns and to all of those who did not and would like input into the ordinance, here is our one chance.

Email me at phillipscc@tds.net or for those who do not have email, contact Elaine at the town office and she will provide you with information on how to contact me. I ask that in the email that you provide the detailed revisions that you would like to see in specific items.

I will accumulate all concerns and bring them forth to the planning board in one month. At this time the board can review and adopt any proposed changes and bring them forth to the townspeople. Thank you, Margaret Cosenza Member, Phillips Concerned Citizen group Phillips
