Sheriff's dept. handles over 500 calls
Mountain Misbehavior
WESTERN MOUNTAINS — The following are summaries of local law enforcement agencies' activities last week. Carrabassett Valley Police In Carrabassett Valley Police, Chief Scott Nichols said that his officers responded to 72 calls from Oct. 17 to 30. The calls included responding to 11 burglary alarms, 15 residential unlocks, nine fire alarms, 19 low temperature alarms and two citizen assists. Officer Ben Gaudet investigated a suspicious vehicle in the West Village, conducted a welfare check in the Sugarloaf Village and assisted Franklin County Sheriff's Department in locating a possible drunk driver and an erratic driver. Officer John Henderson investigated a motor vehicle accident which occurred on the S-curves on Route 27. The driver was unhurt but summonsed to court for operating after suspension. Henderson also investigated a suspicious vehicle parked at the Sandy River Circle. Officer Dennis Burnell discovered a large marijuana plant while conducting a welfare check; the contraband was seized and destroyed. Officer Ron Small investigated a car/deer accident near the Kingfield town line; there were no injuries, reported the occupants of the vehicle. Franklin County Sheriff's Department Patrol, dispatchers, detectives and correctional officers were busy last week at the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, handling some 505 calls for assistance. Seventy-five of those calls were for medical assistance provided by NorthStar Ambulance Service with 10 of the calls for local fire departments. There were 32 inmates at the jail facility with 23 people arrested this past week and either held for court or bailed out. Deputy Heidi Gould gave a motorist a written warning for a traffic violation on Main Street in Strong. Detective David St. Laurent handled a property damage car accident on the Burbank Hill Road in Strong. Sgt. Steve Lowell was assigned to a complaint of a theft on Mile Square Road in Avon. Deputy Gould handled a welfare check on the Spaulding Road in Strong. Deputy Chris Chase and his K-9 Jack were dispatched to the Foster Hill Road in Freeman for a reported burglary. Deputy Sandy Burke was dispatched to a reported burglary on the Bald Mountain Road in Rangeley. On Oct. 24 deputies responded to a furnace problem on Main Street in Kingfield and investigated an alarm going off on the Fontaine Road in Eustis. On Oct. 25 deputies responded to a line down on the Harold Cross Road in Dallas Plantation. On Oct. 26 deputies responded to a 911 hang up on the Toothaker Pond Road in Phillips, investigated a car/deer accident on Route 4 in Rangeley, responded to a 911 hang up on Main Street in Rangeley and a burglary on the Bald Mountain Road in Rangeley. On Oct. 27 deputies investigated an alarm going off on Park Street in Phillips, responded to an Animal complaint on Route 16 in Dallas Plantation and served paper at the Narrow Gauge Park in Kingfield. Deputies on that date also served papers on the Parlin Road and Dodge Road in Phillips and the Rangeley Road in Madrid and in Avon. On Oct. 28 deputies were called to School Street in Rangeley to remove a subject. On Oct. 29 deputies responded to a car moose accident on Route 4 in Sandy River Plantation, gave out a written warning on Route 27 in Carrabassett Valley, investigated a theft on the Salem Road in Salem, responded to a tree down on a power line on Route 16 in Rangeley, responded to a call of harassment on Route 16 in Langtown Township and investigated an accident on he Saddleback Access Road in Dallas Plantation. On Oct. 30 deputies responded to a structure fire on the Salem Road in Kingfield. Maine State Police The Maine State Police was busy last week responding to 44 calls for service which included: Eustis: Troopers Josh Birmingham and Trooper Scott Stevens received calls in that community of two suspicious incidents. Kingfield: Trooper Aaron Turcotte handled a lost property complaint. New Vineyard: Trooper Turcotte handled a threatening complaint. New Sharon: Trooper Scott Stevens responded to a family problem on the Industry Road. Phillips: Trooper Turcotte responded to two family fights on Park Street and High Street. Trooper Randy Keaton investigated a prowler complaint on Shadagee Lane that was unfounded. Strong: Trooper Birmingham and Trooper Keaton responded to the Distefano's Mill on North Main Street regarding a reoccurring problem with vandals breaking into the business. Wilton: Trooper Turcotte performed an accident reconstruction for the Wilton Police. Troopers investigated crashes in New Sharon, Chesterville and Perkins townships last week according to Trooper Stevens. |
