MADISON — Members of the Eunice Farnsworth- Ruth Heald Cragin Chapter met in the Selectmen's Meeting Room at the Old Point Facility, Oct. 18. There was an excellent turnout and much enthusiasm among the members.

The Maine State Organization Regent, Verge Murray, was the honored guest. Murray's project during her administration is to bring education about the history of lighthouses in Maine to the elementary schools across the state. She feels that lighthouses are a great part of our heritage here in Maine; and yet, young children lack education about them.

Bylaws for the newly merged chapter were approved. Programs were set in place for the following year. Following the business meeting, several members including the Chapter Regent Kathy Palmer, and the State Regent went to the River's Edge Restaurant in Madison where the State Regent was treated to lunch. A great time was enjoyed by all.

At the Nov. 8 meeting members will bring unwrapped gifts for veterans to be boxed up and mailed to Landstuhl in time for Christmas. A list of items that would be acceptable was given to each member. There will also be a Silent Auction to raise funds for the chapter. Lucille Greer will present a program on "Women in War." Lucille, herself, is a veteran and this promises to be a very informative and interesting look at women veterans and their contributions.

On a sad note, long-time member Ella Patterson passed away Monday, Oct. 27 at her home. Paterson was known best to members of the former Ruth Heald Cragin Chapter, DAR. However, she also knew members from the former Eunice Farnsworth Chapter. She was a very kind and gentle woman who will be sadly missed. Condolences go out to her family.

The Nov. 8, 10 a.m. meeting will be held at the Selectmen's Meeting Room at the Old Point Facility in Madison. It is handicapped accessible. There is parking at the rear of the building; with the entrance on the side. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, you are welcome to attend any meeting. The members would be very pleased to help you with any questions you may have about qualifying to become a member and what is involved.

You may phone the chapter registrar, Linda Miller, at 628-3684 with any questions. Information is also available at www.dar.org. There are many chapters across Maine, in every state across the country and in several foreign countries. The Daughters of the American Revolution is a very large organization of patriotic women with its headquarters in Washington, DC; and with its own beautiful museum there which is owned and operated entirely by its members. Every July members from across the nation attend Continental Congress. The organization's motto is: "God, Home and Country."
