Lady Lakers advance to western finals
BUCKFIELD - - With a bye in the first round, the third-ranked Rangeley Lady Lakers advanced to the Western D finals with a dramatic overtime win over Buckfield last Saturday, Nov. 1.
With that game, the Lakers (10-3-2) will be traveling to take on top seeded Greenville (7-1-4) today, Wednesday, Nov. 5.
In semifinal action, Rangeley was behind Buckfield by the score of 2-0, with five minutes remaining on the clock in regulation before Laker Allie Hammond turned it up a notch and cut the deficit in half.
In late game dramatics Hammond forced overtime with just one minute remaining to tie the game 2-2. Sudden death overtime produced no winners and the contest went to penalty kicks.
Hammond, Emma Christensen and Sam Olivieri each found the back of the net for the Lakers who iced the game to go on to the Western D finals.
The Western Class D championship game is scheduled for Nov. 8 at a location not yet determined.
