Kingfield Seniors meet at Baptist church
KINGFIELD — Twenty members of the Kingfield senior citizens met on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at noon for a potluck at the Baptist church.
The tables were very festive —decorated by hosts Bill and Joann Gillespie in fall leaves, turkeys and handcrafted baskets that were later given to lucky winners.
The Gillespies were given a round of applause for their efforts.
Ruth White, co-chairman, conducted the meeting with everyone saluting the flag and then saying the Lord's Prayer. The secretary's report was read by Laura Dunham and accepted. It was noted that nine members of the Kingfield group had attended the Strong dinner last month —a wonderful ham, roast beef and turkey was served along with a "warm welcome."
The treasurer's report was given by David Holmes (Holmes said he was only filling in until the late Carrie Carey who passed away several years ago comes back).
White welcomed Beulah Moore, one of Kingfield's oldest residents, commending her for making the effort to attend the meeting. The "card lady," Ruth Holmes, said she had sent out several assorted cards to seniors this month. It was reported that Fred Niidas and George Lane had been hospitalized as was Oscar Robinson.
Carmen Boucher, Laura Dunham and Joann Gillespie will serve on the Christmas setup committee next month. It was voted to bring in two cans of food for the food pantry in Salem at the Dec. 2 meeting instead of exchanging Christmas gifts.
The seniors will go to the Kingfield Elementary School on Nov. 20 for a Thanksgiving dinner at 11 a.m.
Door prizes provided by the Gillespies were won by Dawn Taylor, Howard Dunham, Mary Daggett, Bessie Corson, Farrilyn Chase, Ruth Holmes, Carmen Boucher and Neal Tranten.
