Business as usual for troopers, deputies
WESTERN MOUNTAINS — The following are summaries of local law enforcement agencies' activities last week.
Franklin County Sheriff's Department
The Franklin County Sheriff's Department dispatchers answered 443 calls last week with 51 of the calls for medical assistance provided by NorthStar Ambulance Service. Seventeen of the calls were for local fire departments.
The corrections officers had 31 inmates in their facility. Twenty-three people were arrested, held for court or met bail last week according to Detective Tom White.
Sgt. Steve Lowell was asked to remove a person on School Street in Rangeley. Sgt. Lowell also assisted the State Police on the Rangeley Road in Avon. Deputy Dave Rackliffe was assigned to three theft complaints on the Salem Road in Salem.
Deputy Heidi Gould assisted the NorthStar Ambulance Service on the Barker Road in New Vineyard. Deputy Chris Chase and K-9 Jack assisted a person in Eustis with a mental health issue.
Sgt. Steve Lowell was dispatched to a car/moose accident on Route 4 in Sandy River Plantation. Cpl. Nate Bean and K-9 Diesel were dispatched to a car/deer accident on the River Road in Phillips and a half hour later to a car/moose accident on Route 4 in Sandy River Plantation. Deputy Michelle St. Clair took a report of a property damage accident on the Saddleback access road.
Cpl. Charles conducted a radar detail on Route 4 in Phillips and issued several summons and several written warnings for speed violations. Deputy Charles issued warnings for speed in Carrabassett Valley, Salem, Phillips, Farmington and Chesterville. Deputy Rackliffe handled motor vehicle complaints in Phillips and Wilton.
On Oct. 31 deputies responded to a motor vehicle complaint on the Rangeley Road in Phillips and investigated a complaint of loud noise on Main Street in Phillips.
On Nov. 1 deputies assisted another agency on the Barker Hill Road in New Vineyard, gave out a written warning on Route 4 in Phillips, investigated a car/moose accident on the State Park Road in Rangeley and issued a summons on Route 4 in Phillips.
On Nov. 2 deputies responded to a call of a missing person on the Bald Mountain Road in Rangeley.
On Nov. 3 deputies investigated a theft on the Salem Road in Salem.
On Nov. 4 deputies responded to a motor vehicle complaint on Route 4 in Strong and gave out a written warning on Route 4 in Avon.
On Nov. 5 deputies made an arrest on Route 4 in Avon.
Maine State Police
The Maine State Police was busy this past week responding to 31 calls for service.
Avon: Trooper Scott Dalton responded to a call for a person in mental health crisis. Sgt. Steve Lowell of Franklin County Sheriff's Department assisted with the call. Trooper Bill Baker handled a neighborhood dispute.
Kingfield: Trooper Dalton investigated a burglary of a residence on School Street. Forced entry was gained and property stolen. Langtown: Troopers investigated a possible bail violation. It was determined there was no violation.
Madrid: Trooper Josh Birmingham handled a telephone harassment complaint.
New Sharon: Trooper Baker handled a trespass complaint. New Vineyard: Trooper Baker also investigated an unattended death. Rangeley: Trooper Aaron Turcotte investigated a theft. Salem: Trooper Turcotte arrested a subject an OUI and drugs. Weld: Trooper Birmingham investigated a theft.
Troopers investigated a crash in Coplin Plantation and one in New Vineyard.
