Rebecca Ryder to take over from Richard Batt
      FARMINGTON — Trustees at Franklin Community Health Network and Franklin Memorial Hospital have announced the appointment of Rebecca Ryder of Mission, Texas as the new president and chief executive officer. The appointment will be effective Jan. 5, 2009, according to Doug Walrath, chair of the health network's board of trustees.

Spaghetti supper benefit
      CHESTERVILLE — There will be a benefit spaghetti supper at the Chesterville Town Hall on Saturday, Nov. 22 to help defray the medical expenses of Orin Knowles and Greg Soule. Both Chesterville residents have recently suffered serious injuries which will limit their activities for some time.

      PHILLIPS — There will be a Christmas fair and holiday food sale at the Phillips Community House on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Included will be new crafts and gifts, "gently used" articles suitable for Christmas giving (no clothing) and an array of treats including pies, candy and baked goods.

Madison hires new economic development director
      MADISON — Joy Hikel will join the Town of Madison's staff as the Director of Economic Development beginning this week. Hikel, a resident of nearby Skowhegan, will be responsible for attracting businesses to the Madison Business Gateway park and revitalizing the downtown Main Street area.

Franklin County Sheriff's Department The Franklin County Sheriff's Department had a busy week with dispatchers answering some 434 calls for assistance. Eighty of the calls were for NorthStar Ambulance and five were for local fire departments.

Preschool fundraiser set
      PHILLIPS — Halfway Down the Stairs Preschool on Dodge Road is hosting a fundraiser event on Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be homemade items, baked goods, yard sale items including a doll house full of furniture, a 60" round Formica children's table, homemade herbal salves and lip balms. Snacks will be provided.

      MADRID - - The seventh annual Thanksgiving Service will be held at Reeds Mill Church on Reeds Mill Road in Madrid at 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 27. This year's food drive in underway

      FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce's 2008 Holiday Food Drive is underway. The goal is to provide a food basket for 50 families. The chamber is asking for $25 donations which will help to purchase a Holiday Basket for a family of 4 (living in Franklin County) or to provide a non-perishable item needed to fill the baskets.

FMH library hours
      FARMINGTON — FMH's Ben Franklin Center Library is open to the public and is used extensively by medical staff and hospital personnel. Any interested individuals are invited to check out the library's comprehensive collection of health resources including books, journals, pamphlets, videotapes and DVDs. A librarian is available for assistance from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All about baby
     Heidi MacIssac, owner of the Blessed Baby Boutique and Mother's Center, demonstrates how she can carry her daughter, Maia, in a ring sling sold at her shop. MacIssac recently relocated her business and support center to 155 Front Street in Farmington. The shop offers a wide variety of products including new and used children's clothing, wooden toys, gifts, babywearing products, belly casting kits and body care products. Also being offered are support and services for pregnancy, birth, prenatal services, postpartum services, infant massage and several support groups. Madison: Special town meeting, public reception planned
      MADISON — A special town meeting will be held Monday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m., at Madison's Junior High School cafeteria to approve the $10,000 planning grant from Maine's Department of Economic and Community Development and an interlocal agreement with Skowhegan and Anson to manage cable-access Channel 11.

      CAMDEN -- Robert W. Daigle, president and chief executive officer of Camden National Corporation, recently announced 2008 year-to-date earnings per diluted share of $0.69, a $1.55 decrease from the first nine months of 2007, which includes the $14 million writedown of other-than-temporarily-impaired securities.
