Deer are on the move, be watchful
WESTERN MOUNTAINS — The following are summaries of local law enforcement agencies' activities last week.
Franklin County Sheriff's Department
The Franklin County Sheriff's Department had a busy week with dispatchers answering some 434 calls for assistance. Eighty of the calls were for NorthStar Ambulance and five were for local fire departments. The corrections officers had 34 inmates in their facility.
Deputy Heidi Gould arrested a person on Route 4 in Avon. Deputies Dave Rackliff and Michelle St. Clair arrested a person on the Cottage Road in Kingfield along with two people on Main Street in Rangeley.
Cpl. Nate Bean provided an escort for a person on Route 4 in Avon to pick up personal belongings. Cpl. Steve Charles assisted the State Police on Whitney Street in Phillips.
On Nov. 7 dispatchers sent deputies to Main Street in Strong to an alarm going off. Deputies were also sent to Main Street in Kingfield with a k-9 detail. Deputies investigated a 911 hang-up on Judkins Road in Rangeley, another 911 hang up on the Dallas Hill Road in Dallas Plantation, investigated a suspicious incident on the West Freeman Road in Freeman.
On Nov. 8 deputies responded to an accident on Route 4 in Avon, a call of an erratic operated vehicle on the New Vineyard Road in Farmington, a structure fire on Church Street in Strong and served papers on the True Hill Road in Strong.
On Nov. 9 deputies responded to an accident on Route 4 in Avon.
On Nov. 10 deputies were called to a car/deer accident on the Rangeley Road in Avon, responded to a 911 hang up on the Dallas Hill Road in Dallas Plantation, gave out a written warning on the Salem Road in Kingfield, investigated an accident on Hedgehog Trail in Coplin Plantation, made an arrest on Cottage Road in Kingfield, responded to a complaint of harassment on Bridge Street in Phillips and investigated a burglar alarm on Cottage Drive in Dallas Plantation.
On Nov. 11 deputies responded to an accident on Mile Square Road in Phillips, gave out a written warning for speed on the Rangeley Road in Phillips, made an arrest on River Road in Phillips, made an arrest on Route 27 in Eustis and gave out a written warning on Route 4 in Strong.
On Nov. 12 deputies investigated a citizen's arrest on the Hinkley Pit Road in Kingfield.
On Nov. 13 deputies investigated a theft on the Salem Road in Freeman Township and gave out a written warning on the Blake Hill Road in Phillips.
Maine State Police
Last week, the Maine State Police had a busy week responding to 37 calls.
In Madrid troopers executed search warrants on two residences along with officers from the Franklin County Sheriff's Department and Maine Drug Enforcement. Two men were charged with trafficking in cocaine and marijuana. Approximately 1.5 ounces of cocaine and three pounds of marijuana along with $4,857 in cash were seized, according to Maine State Trooper Scott Stevens. Also in Madrid Sgt. Rod Charette investigated a burglary on the Grundig Road where entry was made through a window and a rare kind of radio was taken.
In Chesterville Trooper Josh Birmingham investigated a suspicious incident, a 911 hang up and an abandoned vehicle.
In New Sharon Trooper Birmingham arrested a person for domestic violence assault and terrorizing. Trooper Birmingham also handled an illegal dumping complaint and a complaint of someone passing a stopped school bus.
In Industry Trooper Birmingham arrested a person for a bail violation and handled a criminal trespass complaint. Trooper Aaron Turcotte investigated a burglary.
Maine State Police Trooper Scott Dalton investigated a burglary in Perkins Township.
In Rangeley Troopers searched a residence and seized seven marijuana plants and two firearms. One man was charged with aggravated cultivation of marijuana.
Trooper Scott Stevens assisted with an investigation of a fatal accident in Sidney where a Rangeley woman was involved.
In Sandy River Plantation Trooper Stevens handled a trespassing complaint.
Troopers investigated car-deer crashes in Avon and New Sharon and in Kingfield on Route 27 with injuries.
Troopers charged one person with OUI and one with Operating After Suspension.
Trooper Matt Casavant was at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy for two days instructing new police recruits in motor vehicle law.
Trooper Tip of the Week
The deer are moving right now, watch for them particularly during twilight driving hours, Trooper Stevens said.

The NorthStar Ambulance Service has been on the move this past week said Operations Manager Michael Senecal.
There was one call in Dallas Plantation, 39 in Farmington, three in Industry, nine in Jay, two in Kingfield, one in Livermore, 11 in Livermore Falls, one in New Portland, two in New Sharon, one in Phillips, four in Rangeley, one in Salem, one in Stratton, two in Strong and six in Wilton.
