Biggest Loser Challenge is on again RANGELEY — Ready to get healthy and drop pounds and inches? Then prepare for the second round of the Biggest Loser Challenge. Registration starts this month with forms available at the Rangeley Region Rehab and Wellness Pavilion and Rangeley Family Medicine. The official start of the 12-week challenge is Jan. 12, with the week prior designated a "prep week" which will include the initial weigh-in and orientation and fitness testing, according to Erin LaRochelle, physical trainer at the Wellness Pavilion. When registering, participants can request to be part of a certain team, such as one from a business or a family group. There is no limit to the number of teams that register and teams are not limited to being from the Rangeley area. Membership at the Wellness Pavilion is not required, but is recommended to help in tracking points earned. Participants are allowed to use their own exercise equipment at home. The 2009 challenge will differ slightly from this year's contest with a new fitness based component that will allow entrants to win points for increased fitness. Also new is an optional weigh-in at the six week mark. There will also be an educational class that will address requests for specific information from challenge entrants. Another new part of the 2009 Biggest Loser competition will be three fitness challenges which will earn extra points for those who participate. Prizes for the 2009 Challenge are still being determined and will be announced at a later date. This year's Biggest Loser Challenge drew 125 entrants, 80 of whom finished the contest with an average weight loss of 17 pounds and inches.
