1927-2008 — He served in the U.S. Army during WWII

FARMINGTON — George E. Lane, 81, of Kingfield, died Friday Nov. 14, 2008, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

He was born Feb. 21, 1927 in Kingfield, a son of Zelba and Barbara (Atwood) Lane. He received his education in Kingfield schools and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

For 21 years, he was employed as a truck driver for Thompson Equipment of Kingfield. A quiet men who enjoyed staying close to home, he enjoyed Sunday afternoon stock car racing.

He is survived by two sons, Dale Lane of Strong and Michael Lane of Kingfield; one daughter,: Gail Crockett of Farmington; one brother, Dorrance Lane and his wife, Jane, of Kingfield; grandchildren, Darlene Householder and her husband, Leo Sr., Megan Hennessey and her husband, Shane, Corey Walker, Cassie Shink, Morgan and Christopher Lane; great-grandchildren, Leo Householder Jr., Jacob, Lucas and Abigail Hennessey and Bryce Lessard; an aunt, Beulah Moore of Kingfield; and special neighbors, Nancy and Norman Trenholm and Ed Squibb.

He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Betty Jean Lane; and three brothers, Everett, Emerson and Kendrick.

Public memorial graveside services will be held Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 19, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery, Kingfield.

Following services, the family invites everyone to a time of fellowship at the Kingfield American Legion Hall.
