CV police gear up for ski season

WESTERN MOUNTAINS — The following are summaries of local law enforcement agencies' activities last week.

Carrabassett Valley Police

The Carrabassett Valley Police Department had a busy week responding to 60 requests as they gear up for another ski season.

Police Chief Scott Nichols said that officers responded to nine alarms, 16 residential unlocks, four fire alarms, 18 low temperature alarms and one citizen assist.

Officer Ben Gaudet assisted the local fire department with a fire in the Spring Farm road. Gaudet also investigated a suspicious vehicle on the Huston Brook Road.

Officer John Henderson conducted a welfare check on Carrabassett Drive and Officer Kelly Leet and Wally Spencer assisted the State Police on a welfare check on the Spring Farm Road. Officer Leet also investigated a car/deer accident on Carrabassett Drive just north of the access road.

Officer Rod Small investigated a report of a hunter hunting on Sugarloaf Mountain property.

Officer Dennis Burnell responded to a parking complaint.

Chief Nichols issued a court summons to a resident for allowing his dog to run at large. This was after a warning was issued 24 hours before.

Franklin County Sheriff's Department

The dispatchers at the Franklin County Jail facility were busy last week answering some 451 calls. Seventyfive of the calls were for medical assistance answered by NorthStar Ambulance Service. Seven of the calls were from local fire departments.

According to Detective Tom White, 27 inmates were at the jail facility.

Cpl. Nate Bean was assigned to a criminal mischief complaint on High Street in Phillips. Deputy Sandy Burke was dispatched to Ira Mountain in Kingfield for a weapons violation. Cpl. Bean assisted a person on the Old Dead River Road in Stratton with a mental health issue.

Deputy Burke was sent to Main Street in Eustis for an intoxicated person and later to Church Street in New Vineyard for a criminal mischief complaint.

Cpl. Steve Charles was assigned to a domestic complaint on the Parlin Road in Phillips and arrested one of the parties. Cpl. Charles was sent to a harassment complaint on Ledge Drive in New Vineyard. Deputy Chase and K-9 Jack were assigned to a threatening complaint on Main Street in Rangeley. Cpl. Charles assisted a Maine State Trooper on Route 4 in Avon. Deputy Heidi Gould was dispatched to the Salem Road in Freeman on a theft complaint.

Deputy Gould also arrested a person in Kingfield and another person in Industry. Cpl. Albert Smith assisted the court with the arrest.

On Nov. 14 deputies answered a complaint of threatening on Main Street in Rangeley and responded to a weapons violation in Kingfield.

On Nov. 15 deputies responded to a call of a suicidal subject in Stratton, investigated an accident on Wheeler Hill in Phillips and responded to an alarm going off on Dallas Hill in Dallas Plantation.

On Nov. 16 deputies responded to an alarm on Bridge Street in Phillips and investigated a 911 hang up on the Phillips Road in Weld.

On Nov. 17 deputies responded to a call of harassment on Ledge Drive in New Vineyard, assisted with an escort on the Farmington Road in Strong, deputies made an arrest on Route 27 in Kingfield and investigated a criminal mischief complaint on Church Street in New Vineyard and gave out a warning on Route 4 in Avon.

On Nov. 18 deputies investigated a call of harassment on Ledge Drive in New Vineyard.

On Nov. 19 deputies responded to a call of smoke on the Norton Hill Road in Strong, gave out a written warning on Route 4 in Strong, assisted another agency on Elm Street in New Vineyard, investigated a car/deer accident on Route 4 in Strong and responded to an alarm going off on the South Branch Road in Rangeley.

Mike Senecal, operations manager at NorthStar Ambulance, said his service had a busy week with one call in Avon, Belgrade one, Carrabassett Valley one, Chesterville two, Farmington 43, Industry one, Jay nine, Kingfield four, Lewiston two, Livermore four, Livermore Falls 12, New Portland two, New Sharon one, Phillips two, Rangeley three, Stratton one.
