Mills to speak on electric power generation, transmission
KINGFIELD — State Senator Peter Mills will discuss the present and future status of electrical power generation and transmission for Maine in a presentation at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 at Webster Hall.
Senator Mills is a veteran state legislator having served in the House of Representatives as well as the Senate. Over the years he has addressed many critical issues ranging from education to economic development, the environment and public policy items as electric power.
The Senator has recently authored a two-part publication for the Maine Center for Economic Policy titled, "Megawatts from the Mountain Tops" and subtitled, "What's in it for Maine." In the introduction to the publication, Senator Mills wrote, "While Maine has a host of stubborn challenges there is one issue where policy makers can make large difference in the months ahead: how to reduce the exorbitant price of electric power."
"In a dozen years the free power that blows across our ridge tops may be equal in scale to 2/3 of Maine's total electrical load. It is an unprecedented opportunity," Mills also wrote.
This is the second in a series of public information meetings sponsored by the Kingfield United Methodist Church. The forums are designed to raise funds to assist those in need of home heating support this winter.
As with the previous forum on the economy of the area, there will be no admission but attendees will be encouraged to make a voluntary contribution to the church's home heating fund. The effort is geared to the generation of funds to help meet the heating demands by elderly and others in need this winter. Funds raised are shared with and administered by the United Methodist Economic Ministry in Salem and the Franklin County Ecumenical Heating fund in Farmington.
