Author/educator seeks spruce gum history

2008-12-03

FARMINGTON — Local University of Maine educator Dave Fuller is gathering data for his upcoming book on Spruce Gum. On Monday, Dec. 8, he will share information with the Farmington Historical Society at its 7 p.m. meeting at the Henderson Memorial Church on Academy Street.

Fuller is a seventh generation Maine citizen who, like many folks, had his first piece of spruce gum given to him as a small boy by his father. He is a Maine woods historian and owner of Spruce Gum Books, an antiquarian book business dealing in books and paper relating to the Maine woods. His "daytime" job is with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension as an educator in agriculture and natural resources.

Fuller is seeking additional information on the Maine Spruce Gum industry and welcomes input from the public.

A potluck dinner will be held in the basement of the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church on Academy Street at 6 p.m. followed by a short business meeting and Dave Fuller's presentation. The public is invited.
