1928-2008 - He will long be remembered for his loving, non-judgmental personality

FARMINGTON - With honor and dignity, our loving father, Gerald Robert Pond Sr., 80, a resident of Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center, Farmington, formerly of New Sharon, went to his spiritual life on the evening of Nov. 30, 2008.

He was born Jan. 15, 1928, in Fort Fairfield, a son of the late John Fredrick and Pearl (Johndro) Pond. He attended school at the Red School House in Farmington.

A United States Army veteran, Gerald served in WWII from 1946-1948 and the Korean Conflict from 1950-1951, stationed in Germany with both deployments, and working in communications. He later worked at Forster Mfg. Co., retiring in 1994. He enjoyed working with horses, fishing, dancing, puttering with his firewood and being surrounded by his family members in the comfort of his own home. At the end of a long day, he readily enjoyed taking a nap or dozing during the nightly news. He will long be remembered for his loving, non-judgmental personality.

Gerald was predeceased by three brothers, Morris Pond, William John Pond and James Abner Pond; one sister, Geraldine Galassette; and one granddaughter, Jessica Attlanta Gilbert.

He is survived by his mom, Doris Johndro Pond of Naples; his longtime companion, Roxie Phillips and her son, Micah Ashley, of Industry; four children, Patsy Pond and her companion, Stanley Nightingale, of New Sharon, Gerald "Mike" Pond Jr. and his companion, Dawna Frasca, of Strong, Sandra Pond Osborne and her husband, William, of Farmington, Edward "John" Pond and his wife, Wendy, of New Sharon; brothers and sisters including, Madeline Kilponen of Farmington, Virginia Kyes of Industry, Emma Jane Reynolds of Merrimack, N.H., Connie Deering and husband, Roland, of Gorham, John Pond and wife, Virginia, of Farmington Falls, Philip Gendreau and wife, Beverly, of Naples, Robert Pond and wife, Louise, of Canton, Burpy Pond and wife, Nancy, of Naples, Richard Pond and wife, Sharon, of Naples; grandchildren, Gary Clark, Toby Pond, Travis Pond, Steven Osborne, Dustin Osborne; four great-grandchildren, Heidi E. Osborne, Isac Welch, Courtney Clark and Emma E. Clark (and awaiting the birth of the 5th great-grandbaby); nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning, Dec. 5, 2008, at 10 a.m. from the Wiles Remembrance Center: Cremation Service and Funeral Home, 137 Farmington Falls Rd. (Rtes. 2 & 27) Farmington, with Rev. John Tolman officiating. Family and friends are invited to call at the center, Thursday evening, Dec. 4, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Farmington. Following services, all are welcome to attend a family reception at the center.
