1918-2008 - She enjoyed living independently

FARMINGTON - Constance Hanff, "Oma," 90, of Kingfield, died Monday Nov. 24, 2008, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, following a stroke.

She was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Elizabeth, N.J., a daughter of Isidore and Carolina (Moskaukis) Paieda. She received her education in New Jersey schools and for a number of years was employed at Dewey Electronics, a company based in Oakland, N.J. that specialized in building parts for rockets.

At the age of 78, she moved to Maine to be closer to family. She enjoyed living independently, caring for her home, tending to her yard, gardening, knitting and crocheting. In her younger years, she also enjoyed bowling. She was an animal lover who spent time feeding the birds in her yard and spoiling her Cairn Terrier, "Dipsey."

She is survived by three daughters, Carolyne A. Starker and her husband, Russell, of New Portland, Shirley M. Aguilera and her husband, Nico, of Marengo, Ill., and Helene M. Harrington and her husband, John, of Camano Island, Washington; six grandchildren, Lori Daubenberger of New Portland, Scott Daubenberger and fiancé, Jessica Almeida, of Madison and Sheri Lopez and husband, Mark, of Kingfield, Christine Hoyos and husband, Sal, Kathleen Iwersen and husband, Matt, and Kerrie Zerba and husband, Scott, all of Bellingham, Wash.; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by an infant son, Douglas; her husband of 49 years, Spencer L. Hanff; and five siblings, Anthony "Tony," Charles, George "Bill" Paieda, Anna Bertamini and Mary "Mae" DiGuardia.

Private family graveside services will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at 1 p.m. from the George Washington Cemetery in Paramus, N.J.
