An open letter to CMP
Just got your bill and didn't know whether to laugh or just shake my head in disgust. Attached please find your new "fleece sheet."
You have been sitting on not only the BEST FORM OF CLEAN POWER and not actively utilizing it for many years, and that is putting the existing dams to work for something other than flood control. I know the politicians in Augusta cannot see beyond the tip of their noses and can only do one thing at a time (and that with 15 supervisors), but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure modular units can be pre-fabbed and installed into the existing dams throughout the Androscoggin, Penobscot, Kennebec, as well as their existing tributaries, with minimal adverse affect on the environment.
The people of Maine have been paying a lot of taxes (as well as excessive power bills) to fund pet projects (does Wiscasset ring a bell). Yes, wind and solar are good for "SMALL" operations, but for raw POWER, power that can supply most of New England, Hydro Electric has been the proven, stable resource (what do you think most towns have been built around?) which so far has been blocked by the tree huggers (they are almost as bad as the politicians they put in office but that's another story, please don't get me started on that one) and the paper company-bought politicians.
Yes, the dams need some serious upkeep, but modification for modular turbine sets could not only be designed for easy removal for periodic maintenance (clam shell isolation) they could be stacked to allow more units to be brought online at high demand load periods, the very act of installing these power sets would "kill two birds with one stone" so to speak.
A little pre-thought on future demands would allow for future expansions, all this without requiring a "carbon footprint" once operational, resembling a small culvert inside of a larger one, and would eliminate the need for fish ladders, thus keeping the fish people happy at the same time. This option is nothing but a win-win situation.
The question is will Central Maine Power utilize its power to help the people of the state or will it continue to just use it to fleece the working people as seems to be the growing trend of not only the government but big business in general?

PS, Ten percent of the profits could be rolled back into the education system, and another 10 percent to help out the handicapped and lowincome bracket —all "write-off-able" tax wise. Look what a POSITIVE image the power company could promote!
Writer's note:
This letter is for intake for all the people out there who actually wish to get something done (or at least start trying) to alleviate the tax burden of "WE THE PEOPLE" and also actually do something to stop the fleecing of the residents (parttime AND full-time) of this fine state by the powers that be. I am writing here in the newspaper instead of sending this letter to CMP because only "we the people" can make the difference, and now is the time.
