NEW YORK N.Y. — Kingfield resident Ulrike Stadler will exhibit her encaustic painting series, "Manatees," at the Amos Enos Gallery from Jan. 6 to 31. A reception for the artist is planned for Thursday, Jan. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m.

"Manatees" is a series of 11 encaustic (hot wax) paintings on lauan board, yellow birch, maple and canvas made by Stadler between 2006 and 2009. Each of the paintings, which range in size from 11" by 22" to 72" by 78", depicts one or more of the large marine mammals known as manatees.

For many years Stadler has been attracted to and fascinated by these gigantic animals. "They seem so utterly gentle in their hugeness," she said. "They seem clumsy, but their faces are elegant and they are curious and playful. Their enormous size seems to conceal a vulnerable, sensitive soul."

Stadler has exhibited nationally and internationally; her work is represented in museum and private collections.

The Amos Enos Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call Steve Crone at 718- 237-3001.
