KINGFIELD — The Kingfield Elementary School Robotics Team, Wall-E, traveled to Castine for the First Lego League Championships Sunday.

Team Wall-E competed with 17 other teams from northern Maine. Team members Randy Cochrane, Michael Shurtleff, Courtland Talmage, Seth Thomas, Kim Hem and Mason Moody had a great performance demonstrating their problem solving and programming skills at the tournament.

Each year the FLL holds tournaments in Maine at which students are presented with a challenge and have to research solutions to problems simulated in the challenge. In addition, the students build and program robots to complete a series of 18 missions set up on a four by eight table. Teams that accomplish missions receive points for each successful attempt. They compete in three rounds and their best score is used in the standings.

This year team Wall-E finished 16th in a field of 18 teams.

They offered a thank you to Nancy Thomas and Julie Talmage for sustenance and moral support, as well as a big thank you to the PTA for their continued support.
