(Submitted photo) PHILLIPS — On Sept. 28, 2008 James and Lillian Leeman of Phillips celebrated their Golden Anniversary at the home of their son, Lonnie Leeman and his spouse Eric Baxter. The celebration was also hosted by their daughter, Rebecca Leeman, her spouse Lisa Cody, and the Leemans' grandson, Chris White.

They were married Sept. 27, 1958 at the Church of the Nazarene in Strong.

In attendance were the very people who had encouraged them to such a milestone and had stood by their sides 50 years ago: the matron of honor, Gracie Baker; sister of the once young bride; Cheryl Goding, sister of the groom; Hugh Targett, brother-in-law of the groom; and his groomsmen Cecil Jones, brother of the bride; and Ralph Luce, brother of the groom.

James Leeman's stepmother, Marelyn Leeman, was able to attend as well, having just celebrated her 90 birthday the previous evening. Over 60 guests joined in the festivities.

"Fifty years of marriage is a remarkable achievement to which few aspire, some arrive by grace others by the Grace of God, but all through love. The love they feel for one another, the love they share with their family and friends and the love they receive from them. It can even be said that the community within which they live contributes to the success of their relationship," noted the couple's son.

Jim and Lil expressed their profound gratitude to all the family and friends who have been a part of elevating them to 50 remarkable years of marriage.

"Your love, celebration of life, and support through sorrow, has been the yolk to bind us. Thank you!" the Leemans said.
