CARRABASSETT VALLEY — On a foggy race course, 76 daring folks raced to raise funds for the McKay-Waddle Scholarship Fund. It was Saturday, Dec. 27 and the Competition Hill trail at Sugarloaf was in and out of the clouds.

Local racer Craig Marshall won the event with a very fast time 23:20. Peter C. Smith was second with a time of 23:64 and Kelly Waddle was third with a time of 23:72. All three are Carrabassett Valley Academy students and it was fun to watch them compete.

This race was a re-run from the event postponed last April. Over $900 was raised to benefit young alpine racers pursuing their dreams.

There will be another race in April 2009.

Many thanks to our sponsors: Aardvark Outfitters, Patagonia of Freeport, Gepetto's and Quahog Lobsters.

The prizes were awarded to Kathy Brown, Steve Morse, Cody Bullen and Eric Chamberlain.

A special thank-you goes out to all who participated and those who organized this fun event!

Happy New Year! Think snow…
