(John Ober photo) CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Two men were treated at the scene of a spectacular crash Tuesday morning, Dec. 30 following a two-vehicle accident on Route 27.

According to Carrabassett Valley Police Officer Dennis Burnell, Michael Roy, 27, of Harpswell was operating a 2003 Saab, heading south when he went to turn into the north entrance of Ayotte's Country Store. In back of Roy was Caleb Bean, 26, of Carrabassett Valley, operating a 1990 Dodge pickup.

When Roy went to make the turn, Bean was apparently distracted when he saw another vehicle coming toward him. Trying to avoid Roy by going to the right, Bean hit a frozen snow bank, flipped the pickup over into the air, came down and hit Roy's vehicle on the passenger side. Bean then continued upside down into Ayotte's parking lot.

Both Roy and Bean were treated at the scene by NorthStar Ambulance Service medical personal. Roy had no injuries and Bean refused any medical attention.

Bean was not wearing a seat belt and it probably saved his life, added Burnell.

Both the vehicles were demolished in the 10 a.m. crash. Members of the Carrabassett Valley Fire Department also responded to the scene.
