Maine Mountain Series Slopestyle Season opens
CARRABASSETT VALLEY — The season opening United States of America Snowboard Association Maine Mountain Series Slopestyle competition took place in Sugarloaf's Stomping Grounds terrain park on Sunday, Dec. 28.
Competing against snowboarders from across the state, Carrabassett Valley Academy athletes reaped the benefits of their hard work and training. Freshmen Jack Dawe stomped a backside 540 melon to take the gold in Youth Men. Senior Benjamin Bisson threw a big frontside 630 on the hip to take Silver in Open Class Men. While Freshmen Brianna Daly ripped up the park with a gold winning run in Youth Women and Junior Nicol Colarusso threw down two solid runs to take gold in Junior Women.
Up and coming Sugarloaf/Carrabassett Valley Academy athletes also had a great showing taking several medals. It was evident that the younger riders were well prepared for the event. Morgan Rodway, Libby Shanahan and Milly Detels earned gold medals. Silver medals went to Rollie Zagnoli and Jake Wren and Miriah Chapman took home a bronze medal.
