Sandy River Farms garners awards
FARMINGTON -- Sandy River Farms won five titles in the 2008 National Corn Growers' Association's Corn Yield Contest in Maine recently.
Brenda Voter York recently won first place in the A No Till/Strip Till Non-Irrigated division of the Corn Yield Contest. York won with Pioneer brand hybrid 38N86, which yielded 175 bushels per acre. She also won third place in the A Non-Irrigated division with Pioneer brand hybrid 38N86, which yielded 179 bushels per acre.
Linwood York won second place in the A No Till/Strip Till Non-Irrigated division of the 2008 NCGA's Corn Yield Contest. He won with same hybrid, which yielded 149 bushels per acre.
Herbert York third place in the same division of the 2008 NCGA's Corn Yield Contest using the same hybrid which yielded 147 bushels per acre.
L. Herbert York won first place in the A Non-Irrigated division with the same hybrid which yielded 231 bushels per acre.
The NCGA awarded 520 state titles in this year's Corn Yield Contest, an annual competition among corn producers with the goal of producing the highest yields. In the contest, growers compete within a broad range of corn production classes, including non-irrigated, notill/ strip-till non-irrigated, no-till/strip-till irrigated and more.
