CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Paul Schipper, of Carrabassett Valley, died 3:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2009, after a bout with pneumonia brought on after suffering a stroke during surgery for a broken hip.

He was best known as the Iron Man of Skiing for his skiing streak which started in 1981 and continued every day Sugarloaf was open until 2005. His streak garnered him two articles in People Magazine, one in the New York Times, and Good Morning America sent a crew to celebrate one of his milestones.

At his request, there will be no funeral services. A complete obituary will be published at a later date.
