Top racers from CVA headed to J2 Olympics
      These top racers from CVA are headed to Aspen, Colorado, March 9 through 13, to compete in the J2 Olympics. Craig Marshall, Ben Morse, Casey Myrick, Myrick and Kelly Waddle qualified for the J2 Olympics that required that the athletes be in the top five to 10 percent of the 15-16 year olds in the U.S.A.

Darienzzo Named Snowboarder of the Year
      CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Stratton's Dylan Darienzzo was recently named the 2009 USASA Maine Mountain Series Snowboarder of the Year. A senior and high honors student at Carrabassett Valley Academy, Darienzzo secured the series top distinction by scoring the most points throughout the season in all events and all disciplines.

New softball league forming
      FRANKLIN COUNTY — Franklin County lady softball players age 16 and under are invited to sign up for the new Franklin County Babe Ruth Softball League.       CALGARY, Canada — At age 16, he may have been the youngest competitor at the NorAm Tour Halfpipe Finals last Saturday at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary but age was not a factor when Evan Walls clinched the halfpipe title.

J3s travel to Junior Olympics and finals
      CARRABASSETT VALLEY — For the second year in a row, all the competing CVA J3 alpine racers qualified for post season events at either Junior Olympics or J3 Finals. CVA is sending seven to Junior Olympics and four to finals. Only six girls and eight boys from Maine qualified for Junior Olympics and 14 boys and eight girls for J3 Finals.

Cota qualifies for US Ski Team
      Two seasons after graduating from Carrabassett Valley Academy, Jeremy Cota has reached his goal of qualifying for a spot on the U.S. Ski Team. Last weekend at the final NorAm competition of the year, Cota was in a pretty comfortable position. He was the overall point leader coming into the dual mogul competition.
