Warrant set for Eustis voters
EUSTIS -- The voters in the Town of Eustis will see 33 articles at this year's Annual Town Meeting and the election of three officers.
On Friday, March 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. the polls will be open at the town office.
The first order of voting is to elect a Moderator for the annual meeting the following morning. The sec- ond is the town's municipal ballot where three seats are open.
Up for a renewed term and uncontested is Jane Wilkinson for the office of selectman and Overseer of the Poor.
Also on the ballot is Thomas MacDonald who is seeking a new term as an MSAD #58 Director. MacDonald is also uncontested.
Voters will choose between Daphne Harp and Lori Lemont for the office of planning board.
All terms being considered are for three years.
Thirty-one articles are on the Warrant for Saturday's March 7 meeting, which starts at 9 a.m. at the Stratton- Eustis Community Building on Main Street in Stratton.
Article 10 asks the town to vote to authorize the selectmen to use the following amounts to reduce the 2009 tax commitment: State Revenue Sharing came in at $72,703; Excise revenue $147,334; Tree Growth Tax $32,040; Snowmobile Refund $1,899; and Veteran's Exemption $375 are listed on the warrant.
Article 13 lists the administration expenses for the town which is up $3,000 from 2008. The budget for 2009 is set at $162,800 with a new line item for computer maintenance set at $6,000.
Article 20 lists Health and Sanitation expenses and is down $11,000 from the previous year and set at $58,900. The biggest savings comes from monies carried over from the transfer station budget.
The Highway Account may hit the floor of Town Meeting with a bit of discussion. The budget is up $60,000 from the previous year, due to winter road maintenance. In 2008, JL Brochu had a yearly contract with the town to plow roads for $69,400. After the Request For Proposals went out, the sole bidder, Absolute Services Inc. of Stratton's contract price was $120,000.
Article 24 relates to the town's recreation budget set at $46,750. The library budget is up $8,000 and set at $26,000 for 2009 due to expanded hours. There is no change to the recreation youth program set at $18,750. Blanchard Park and Little League remain unchanged at requests of $1,000 each.
Article 26 asks for $500 for Christmas Decorations and like the previous year asks for $7,500 for the Arnold Trail Snowmobile Club.
There are few changes to the article that relates to TIF expenditures. A $500 request was removed from the Christmas Decorations account and $500 more is added to the boat landing. Flagstaff Area Business Association's request remains the same as last year at $6,000.
Some of the final articles relate to new zoning updates pertaining to Shoreland Zoning mandates set by State regulation.
