Family Winter Carnival planned for Orgonon

RANGELEY — The Family Winter Carnival at Orgonon, free of charge, will be held on Saturday, March 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Conference Center at the Wilhelm Reich Museum on Dodge Pond Road.

Beginning at 11 a.m. attendees will make a "Quinzee," a "snow shelter" that is made by piling snow and packing it down as layers are added. When it's the desired size, it is scooped out. To make a perfect scoop, cut one side off an empty plastic detergent bottle that has a handle. Make this up ahead of time and bring it with you, urge organizers.

At 1 p.m., George Adams will present a show on "Wildlife and Landscapes," a PowerPoint presentation using his own photographs and telling stories about how he achieves his shots.

Throughout the day, smaller children will be able to have their own antics with a Ball Tent, and Jump & Slide. And all ages can participate in outside activities like snowshoeing, sliding, and cross-country skiing. Bill Roy will lead his ever popular snow shoe trek. Hands-on activities from the museum's Discovery Room as well as crafts will be available inside.

There will be a fire in the fireplace for cooking. Food will be available for a donation or participants can bring their own lunches.
