Mountain Misbehavior: Law enforcement busy throughout area
WESTERN MOUNTAINS — The following are summaries of some of the local law enforcement agencies' and fire departments' activities last week.
Carrabassett Valley Police
In Carrabassett Valley, the police department and Sugarloaf Security responded to 105 requests for service this past week. The calls included sending officers to investigate six burglary alarms, 20 unlocks, six parking complaints, 10 citizen assists, 12 fire alarms and 15 low temperature alarms.
Cpl. Small responded to a medical emergency and investigated a theft complaint.
Officer Nile responded to a loud party complaint, a report of a suspicious vehicle, investigated two theft complaints and conducted a welfare check.
Officer Burnell investigated a theft complaint, a loud party complaint, a report of an erratic driver and responded to two medical emergencies.
Sgt. Walker investigated a theft complaint, a loud party complaint and charged two Vermont men with driving to endanger.
Officer Gaudet responded to a loud party complaint and two intoxicated person complaints.
Chief Scott Nichols is still investigating a theft and a forgery complaint.
The officers investigated three traffic accidents.
Franklin County Sheriff's Department
Franklin County Sheriff's Department dispatchers had a busy week responding to some 363 calls for assistance including eight calls for the local fire departments. There were 26 inmates in the jail facility with 20 people arrested that week.
In Coplin Plantation, Cpl. Steve Charles assisted a person with a mental health problem. Det. Dave St. Laurent assisted a Dead River Road resident with a harassment complaint. Cpl. Charles assisted Maine State Trooper Scott Stevens with an accident on Route 27 and Dep. Dave Rackliffe and K-9 Odin assisted the U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Coburn Gore.
Dep. Michelle St. Clair issued a deer tag to a person on Route 234 in Strong and also checked the welfare of an Anson Valley resident.
Dep. Heidi Gould investigated a property damage accident on the Mt. Blue Road in Avon and a telephone harassment complaint on the Rangeley Road in Avon. Sgt. Steve Lowell was assigned to a school bus passing on Route 27 in New Vineyard.
On Feb. 28 deputies gave out a written warning on Route 142 in Kingfield, issued two written warnings on Route 27 in Eustis and responded to a 911 hang-up on the Avon Valley Road in Avon.
On March 1 deputies issued a summons on the Salem Road in Phillips, responded to a call of a mental subject on Hedgehog Trail in Coplin Plantation and investigated a chimney fire on Iisalo Road in Temple.
On March 2 deputies assisted another agency on Route 27 in Eustis, investigated a motor vehicle accident on the Old Dead River Road in Eustis, gave out a defect card on Route 4 in Phillips and responded to a call of lines down on the Norton Hill Road in Strong.
On March 3 deputies did an investigation on Route 27 in Wyman Township, investigated a criminal mischief complaint on the Gray Road in Sandy River Plantation and gave out a defect card on Main Street in Eustis.
On March 4 deputies responded to an alarm going off on the Caldwell Road in Eustis, gave out a written warning on Route 4 in Phillips, investigated a traffic violation on Route 27 in New Vineyard and gave out a defect card on Main Street in Kingfield.
On March 5 deputies investigated a theft on Shady Lane in Kingfield and gave out a written warning on Route 4 in Phillips. Fire Departments/Ambulance Service NorthStar Ambulance Service
NorthStar Ambulance Service also had a busy week, according to Manager Mike Senecal, responding to one call in Carrying Place Township, one in Chesterville, two in Coplin Plantation, one in Dallas Plantation, two in Eustis, five in Farmington Center, 39 in Farmington, one in Freeman Township, eight in Jay, one in Kingfield, two in Lewiston, one in Livermore, three in Livermore Falls, one in Madrid, one in New Portland, one in New Sharon, one in New Vineyard, six in Phillips, four in Rangeley, three in Sandy River Plantation, one in Stratton, two in Strong, one in Temple, one in Turner, two in Weld and eight in Wilton.
