Improv group to hold Relay For Life benefit

FARMINGTON — The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life celebrates the lives of hundreds of local residents who have survived cancer, while offering the hope of finding a cure. On Saturday, March 28 at 8:30 p.m. in the Lincoln Auditorium of the Roberts Learning Center on the UMF campus, improv group, Lawn Chair Pirates are presenting a benefit for the Relay For Life of UMaine Farmington. Doors will open at 7:30 and the event is free to all —community and students alike. Donations will be greatly appreciated and will be contributed to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of UMaine Farmington.

The wildly popular student comedy improv group, The Lawn Chair Pirates, puts on several outlandish performances each semester (always to packed houses). Also expected to appear on the 28th, as special guest stars, is the Teachers' Lounge Mafia, which will participate in a variety of games.

Neither the Lawn Chair Pirates, nor the Teachers' Lounge Mafia will be paid for performing; instead their pay will be contributed to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of UMaine Farmington.

The Relay For Life of UMaine Farmington, April 10 to 11, is an all-night community event bringing together teams of families, friends, religious groups, neighborhoods, and businesses —all with the same goal of curing cancer in the new millennium. Teams of walkers keep a continuous presence on the track throughout the night, walking in shifts to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

Dollars raised during Relay For Life help support American Cancer Society research, education, advocacy, and patient services. Programs include Reach to Recovery, providing one-on-one support for breast cancer patients; and Resource Centers, offering comfortable settings to research cancer information via computers, books, and videos. Relay For Life also helps maintain the American Cancer Society's toll-free 24-hour cancer information line at 1-800-ACS-2345.

To find out how to get involved in Relay For Life or to volunteer, contact the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345 or online at www.relayforlife.org/umainefarmington.
