BANGOR - - Last weekend Mt. Abram senior basketball captain Kenni Norton participated in the MacDonald All-Star game at Husson University.

She was also a finalist in the Class A through D statewide foul shooting contest. The very best shooters in all the state were determined last year and it came down to the final competition last weekend.

The winner of the event shot 49 baskets out of 50 attempts or shot at an upper 98-percent. That winner is MTA's Kenni Norton crowned the State of Maine Foul Shooting Champion.

Coach Doug Lisherness reported that she made the first 13 buckets, missed her 14th and then buried the next 36 straight. She, although not officially recognized, did better then the boys' finalist that day.

In the game itself, Norton was the West's high scorer with 12 points and went six-for-six from the line. Or you can say that Norton went 55 for 56 from the line on the day.

The West did lose the game, but the participants had a great time.

Lisherness attributed Norton's success to her commitment. After every practice and every home game and some away games she takes her 50 to 100 shots and just last week she shot everyday after school.

"People like Kenni just love the game of basketball and when you love it as much as her you commit to making yourself better," Lisherness said. "She just makes a coach look good."

The coach said he can't take credit for all of Norton's accomplishments this season such as being in an elite club of 1,000-point career scorers. "It's her commitment outside of practices and during the off-season."
