Conference on climate and cultural anxiety planned
WATERVILLE — An international conference about the history of climate change —the first of its kind— will take place at Colby College April 1 to 4.
Historians of science and technology and affiliated scholars from around the world will convene in Waterville and the public is invited to attend.
The conference, titled Climate and Cultural Anxiety: Historical and Social Perspectives, is international in scope, interdisciplinary in nature, and intergenerational in its inclusion of both graduate and undergraduate students, according to event organizer James Fleming, a professor of science, technology and society at Colby and a leading expert on the history of climate.
The opening plenary session is Wednesday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 1 of the Olin Science Center. Professor Vladimir Jankovic of the University of Manchester will give a talk titled Show Me the Money: Climate Change and the Economy in 2009.
The complete conference schedule is available at http://www.colby.edu/sts/climateanxietyschedule.pdf. Additional information, including the pre-circulated discussion papers, is available by request from Alice Ridky (amridky@colby.edu).
