Bridging the Gap - Elderly food program in new hands

2009-04-15 / Community & Local News

KINGFIELD — The Kingfield United Methodist Church under, the direction of Pastor Connie Maginnis, will be taking over the Bridging the Gap elderly food program beginning with the April meal.

Sue Jones and helpers have run the program for the past 15 months after Tracy Bessey began the elderly food program in September 2007 as a psychology class project. Jones has expanded the program from feeding just the residents at the Kingfield Elderly Housing to delivering homemade, nutritious meals to over 50 elderly citizens throughout the town on the last Saturday of every month.

The program runs on donations from local individuals, businesses and organizations. Each month locals donate food items toward the preparation of the meal that brings a smiling face and a homemade food to the door of many elderly people.

Each month the list of items needed will change, if you'd like your name added to an email contact list, leave your email address with the pastor. This program runs solely on donations from the community.

If you would like to donate to this program by preparing an item, donating ingredients for the meal or monetary donations, contact Pastor Connie Maginnis by calling the church at 265-4921 or her cell phone at 431- 0326.
