Stratton-Eustis Lions take home six awards

CAMDEN -- At the Maine Lions Convention held at Samoset Resort the weekend of April 24 to 26, the Stratton Eustis Lions Club was again awarded the prize for its membership drive that netted eight new members. The club also received a monetary award ($250) plus a Membership plaque.

Additionally, the club received third place for the small club Activities Award. Other awards went to the club for its door decorating contest and first place in the Talent Show for their rendition of a 50s rock band with singers. Members of the group were: Tony Arruda, Wyman; Marge McHugh, New Vineyard; Patricia Franz and Bruce Marcoux from Coplin Plantation.

Other personal awards included the International President's Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of distinguished achievement to Regional Chair, Tony Arruda from the Stratton Eustis Lions and Zone Chair, Bruce Jellison, from the Wilton Lions. Marge McHugh, Stratton Eustis Lions, received an award for her dedication to the Western Mountain Leos Club.

The Stratton Eustis Lions Club will be continuing this year's activities on a variety of projects in the local community, such as the June Family Fun Days scheduled for June 26 to 28, the October Stratton-Eustis Halloween Party and the December Seniors' Christmas dinner and party.

Proceeds from past fundraising events have gone to two annual college scholarships, Sight First II, and other causes in the community and world wide.

With new members the club now totals 28 members and hopes to add additional fund raisers and award additional scholarships to local youth this coming year.
