Beginning a new life in Maine

The Herbert Grand Hotel
By Robert & Nerisha Gregor

On May 19, 2009, my wife and I purchased the Herbert Grand Hotel.

We are former Manhattan attorneys who realized that the fast-paced lifestyle of New York City was not for us. Prior to law school, I had spent eight years in the hospitality industry and I wanted to return.

When we discovered the Herbert, we immediately grew excited and seized the opportunity to begin a new life in Maine. Needless to say, we are very excited to be Kingfield's newest residents and the Herbert's newest owners.

Over the next few months, you will see some changes at the Herbert. As an initial matter, the exterior of the building will receive a facelift.

Additionally, we plan to renovate and re-open the dining room with a Roaring Twenties themed steak and seafood restaurant. We recognize that the Herbert is an integral part of the Kingfield community and we promise to do everything in our power to restore its grandeur and continue its legacy.

As a new owner of the Herbert, I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to publicly thank Lynn and Marcie Herrick, the former owners of the Herbert, for their years of service to the Kingfield community and for their graciousness in easing our transition. Their path to ownership of the Herbert was far more difficult than ours and we appreciate their generosity more than words can express.
