Contra dance, bean supper at Norlands

LIVERMORE — A contra-dance will be held on Saturday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at the Washburn-Norlands Living History Center as part of a two-day event featuring the largest Civil War reenactment in Maine in recent years. Local favorite, The Racket Factory, will be performing the music and calling the contra-dance, which will be held under a tent on the grounds of the 19th Century historic site.

The Racket Factory has more than a century of combined experience producing the finest reels, jigs, waltzes, hambos and polkas for the people of New Sharon, Vienna and Central Maine. Using only fiddles, guitar, banjo, bass and a five-strong racket, it's all locally made music. The Racket Factory is Hank Washburn, Eric Johnson, Margaret Cox, Mark Rains and Cynthia Phinney.

Come early for a traditional bean supper at 5 p.m. or for a day full of Civil War living history. Gates open at 9 a.m.

Visit the Web site: www.norlands.org or phone 897- 4366 to learn more about the event.

Full-day tickets are $7, and include dance, but no beans. Bean supper with contra-dance is $8. And the dance only is $5.
