Summer GPS trainings offered

FARMINGTON — GPS Training is ideal for hikers, hobbyists, geocachers, outdoorsmen, search and rescue teams, self-rescue or other outside activities. That's why Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation District is hosting three Introductory GPS classes this summer.

No previous GPS training is necessary. Trainings are scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 8 a.m. to noon in Farmington; Tuesday, July 18, 8 a.m. to noon at the Rangeley Public Library; and Saturday, Aug. 11, 8 a.m. to noon in Farmington. The Farmington locations will be announced at a later date.

Patty Cormier of the Maine Forest Service will conduct the training. Garmin GPS units will be provided for the hands-on learning about how to overcome some common challenges in the field.

The workshop cost is $15. Pre-registration and payment are required in advance.
