MADISON — At the June 13 meeting of the Eunice Farnsworth-Ruth Heald Cragin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, held at the Old Point Facility, Flag Day was commemorated with a very informative and interesting program presented by member Lucille Greer of Norridgewock on Service Flags, which were on display.

Also present was guest speaker Ron Page of the Madison American Legion, Post 139. Page presented the folding of the American Flag to the chapter and a film presentation. He is the Americanism Leader and travels around to different schools and to Scout meetings to promote patriotism and education about the American Flag. It is the chapter's sincere hope that Page will join them again in the future.

During the meeting, Priscilla Bacon of Sidney related the story of Red Cloud, a Dakota Indian, who was a diplomat who traveled around speaking on behalf of the Indians. It was said that Red Cloud did not like being photographed in his Indian dress; but rather preferred to wear a suit.

One segment of the meeting was devoted to Conservation with information given about landscaping and gardening and the effects of pesticides on our water supply.

Information was read regarding the upcoming Lexington Old Home Days Celebration which will take place on Saturday, July 11 at the Happy Horseshoe Campground on Long Falls Dam Road in Lexington Twp. The day will begin at 10 a.m. when the exhibits will be on display in the hall. They will include old maps, photos, historical documents, pictures of early homes and memorabilia of Lexington.

There will be two guided bus tours of early Lexington (10 a.m. and 2 p.m.) showing the sites of homes in 1939 with pictures, identifying the sites of former schools, mills, blacksmith shop, town hall, hotel, dance hall, inns and taverns. The fee for the bus tour will be $5 per person. Bus seating is limited and reservations are recommended. Phone 628-3171 or 465-8238 or stop in at the campground office to reserve your seat.

Lunch and a 5 p.m. bean hole bean supper will be available at the campground for a nominal fee. There will also be an ice cream social at 1 p.m. at the exhibit hall. Lexington was settled in 1807. It is hoped that many will attend this celebration; and that some may donate pictures or other memorabilia to the Lexington Historical Committee.

Members were reminded that there will be no meetings in July or August. The next chapter meeting will take place Saturday, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Old Point Facility in Madison in the Selectmen's Meeting Room. The guest speaker will be Kitty Chadbourne, the State Committee Chairman of the DAR Museum; who will present a program on the DAR Museum's Maine Period Room Display.
