NORTH NEW PORTLAND — The Fifth Annual Anglers' Worship Service is planned for 11 a.m., Sunday, July 19, at the North New Portland (Presbyterian, USA) Community Church.

This special service celebrates the outdoors heritage of the Upper Kennebec River Valley. A half century ago, the Anglers' Worship Service was first led by Arthur MacDougall, Jr. at the Congregational Church in Bingham. MacDougall was the author of the widely read and loved "Dud Dean" short stories about "everybody's favorite Maine guide," which appeared regularly in Field and Stream magazine.

At the anglers' service, participants will enjoy an original story by Gary Cobb, proprietor of Cobb's Pierce Pond Fishing Camps, hear a reading of a Dud Dean story, and listen to the music of Nan Berry.

The anglers' service will be held at the North New Portland Community Church which recently received the 2009 Maine Historic Preservation Award for renovation to the church bell tower. Because of bridge construction a detour to North New Portland is necessary.
