Healthcare Golf Classic nets impressive returns

They are joined by Seth Wescott. FARMINGTON — More than $25,000 was raised at the annual Healthcare Golf Classic held July 19 and 20 at the Sugarloaf Golf Club. Thirty-four teams from throughout New England took part in the Sunday and Monday tournaments.

This year marked the 22nd year of the tournament; its longevity and success is due to the generous support of tournament sponsors and individuals. Proceeds from the tournament, coordinated by Franklin Community Health Network, benefit the Healthy Community Coalition and the Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center. Both provide health services to people throughout Greater Franklin County.

Highlights of the tournament were the lively Sunday night dinner and awards ceremony at Gepetto's, with the introduction of tournament sponsors, TD Banknorth and Broadlane, as well as the presence of Seth Westcott, Olympic gold medalist in the sport of snowboardcross, who played a hole with each team on Monday.

On Sunday the winner of first place "gross" was Team Preti, Flaherty, Beliveau & Pachios, comprising John Doyle Jr., Steven Michaud, Richard Willett and Gordon Smith. The first place "net" team was made-up of Berry, Dunn, McNeil comprised of Mike Whitten, Julie Whitten, Tom Fitzherbert and Lisa Trundy.

Monday the winner of first place "gross" was Team Webber comprising Peter Webber Sr., Sean Keenan, Jeff Rosenberg and Richard Marshall. Second place went to Franklin/Somerset, FCU made up of Cass Hirshfelt, Jason Winslow, Anthony Veneziano and Brian Willett. Third place went to the Lincoln Financial Team of Dave Morin, James Morin and Ron Greco.

The first place "net" team was Brenda LaForge, Mark Weisbrod, Don Garrison, and Mike Swan representing Broadlane. Second net went to the Berry, Dunn, McNeil & Parker Team of Mike Whitten, Julie Whitten, Grant Ballantyne and Lisa Trundy. And third place went to the Ranor Mechanical Team of Aaron St. Pierre, Brian Demshar, Matt McCarthy and Marc Belanger.

Rebecca Ryder, Franklin Community Health Network president/CEO was on hand Monday to greet the players.

The Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center provides women with timely access to state-of-the-art breast cancer screening, diagnostic, clinical, and care-support services. The Center is located in the Franklin Health Medical Arts Center in Farmington and memorializes a Carrabassett Valley resident who was a victim of breast cancer.
