Lions sponsor Peace Poster contest
STRATTON-EUSTIS — The Stratton-Eustis Lions Club is sponsoring its annual Peace Poster contest, with final judging on Nov. 20, by the District 41 Maine Lions organization.
"By sponsoring the Peace Poster contest, Lions members in many nations are reaching out to their local youth and community members and offering them an opportunity to support peace, communication and international understanding in our world," Lions Club's past International President Jimmy Ross said.
It is time again for our countries' children to display their views on World Peace through the International Lions Peace Poster contest.
The United Nations will judge the three winning posters submitted to Lions Club International from around the globe. The past winners have been immortalized in postage stamps along with the winner's picture receiving their award published in the Lions Magazine and distributed to World Press International. Last year's winner, Yennie Shyu, 12 years old, was from California.
The theme for this year's entries is "The Power of Peace."
Imagine what this world would be like if this theme were a reality. Imagine a single youth within our communities contributing to this goal.
The contest is open to all youth within the community between the ages of 11 and 13 years of age. Any group may participate including Church Youth Groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, home schooled and public schooled children. "We are looking for all aspiring artists in our communities," Patricia Franz, Stratton- Eustis Lions Club co-chair stated.
Submission due date for the poster is Nov. 7. Poster size requirements and a copy of the rules for Maine's contest can be obtained from the Stratton-Eustis Lions Club, P.O. Box 103, Stratton, ME 04982, or call 246- 5874 for more information.
