Youth fall soccer returns through WMTSA
SALEM —- Registration is underway for the Western Mountain Youth Soccer Association's 2009 fall recreational soccer program. This program begins on Sept. 13 with registrations due by Sept. 10.
Interested participants can either download and mail in their registrations form or complete an online registration.
The WMYSA is offering a rec program for grade 1 to 6 and a Kindergarten Prep. Program.
Adult volunteers will referee and provide on-the-field coaching for all games, which is new this year. High school student volunteers will continue to act as bench coaches.
All sessions will be held at Mt. Abram High School.
On Sept. 13 grades 1 to 6 will meet for the first day of drills and skills. All regular sessions are scheduled for Sundays. On Sept. 20 the groups will be announced and games will commence. Games will continue on Sundays through Oct. 18. Playoffs will start on Oct. 25 with the championship game scheduled for Monday Oct. 26 under the lights at Mt. Abram.
Division 1 (grades 1-3) will play their Sunday games from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Division 2 (grades 4-6) play from 2:15 - 3:30 p.m.
The fees for the program, which covers liability insurance and equipment, is $25 for a single player, $20 for two family members and $15 for three or more. A $5 late charge will be implemented for late registrations. The registration due date helps organizers know how many volunteers they'll need and how many fields.
The Kindergarten Prep program will be supervised by Mt. Abram soccer coach Marc Keller and several MTA students. This program is running from Sept. 13 through Oct. 18 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. "The kindergarten program focuses on fun and beginning soccer skills and will include some group activities and fun games."
In both programs, players must have appropriate athletic shoes, and cleats are not required. Shin guards are recommended, but are not required.
Reversible WMYSA jerseys are available for purchase at their cost of $18, but not required. Shirts from a previous season may be used again. Players without jerseys will be provided pinnies for games.
