Busy days for the club
STRATTON-EUSTIS — After years of meetings and negotiations, Trail Master Dick Smith from the Flagstaff Area ATV Club recently announced the opening of the Carrabassett Connection between the Kingfield and Stratton/Eustis trail systems.
Work done in the Carrabassett area consisted of clearing, bridges, boardwalks, box culverts and signage. The power line and a few other areas are challenging in "real world" ATVing, Ruthanne Smith, a spokesperson for the club, said. These areas will be refined over a period of time, she explained.
"Spectacular views of Crocker Mountain, Bigelow and Black Nubble are just a few of the treats riders will experience. If you ask any rider about the Quill Hill area you'll hear how beautiful it is. We are indeed fortunate to have so much available to us," Smith noted.
"One of our claims to fame here in Eustis is our famous 'Senior Boardwalk Mudhole.' It's not uncommon to come upon a group enjoying this challenge. Our trails offer something for everyone, come and see for your self," Smith urged.
On Sept. 12, the club will hold a landowner appreciation cookout at the Cathedral Pines Campground at noon at site #1. "Without the generosity of our Maine landowners, we would not have a sport," Smith said. All members as well as landowners are cordially welcome to attend the event. Members who would like to contribute a dish are asked to contact Sandi at 246-2922.
On Sunday, Sept. 13, the club will hold its monthly meeting at the Stratton Community Center at 10 a.m.
Club meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month from March thru October. All interested parties are welcome.
