Canoe trip & 'Arundel' discussion planned

New Portland Community Library events

NEW PORTLAND — A number of New Portland residents have been reading "Arundel" by Maine author, Ken Roberts, for the One Book/One Town program recently.

On Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. at the New Portland Community Library, there will be a discussion about "Arundel" and the local history from the 1770s, complete with professional re-enactors in costume with muskets, food and drink from that time period.

In the spirit of "Arundel," a Guided Canoe/Kayak Trip down the Kennebec has been planned for Sunday, Sept. 20, leaving at 9 a.m. from the Evergreen Campground at the Solon bridge.

Also, anyone interested in taking a 15-minute walk out to the petroglyphs in Embden, should call Lolly Phoenix for details on a guided tour: 628-2361.

Even those who haven't yet read the book are encouraged to attend. Anyone who has a copy of the book is encouraged to share it.

For more information, call the library at 628-6561.
