Arthur Brodrick P.E.

1930-2009 — He was a graduate Mechanical Engineer, Stevens Institute of Technology '53, & a licensed Professional Engineer, states of New York & Maine

Arthur Brodrick was a seasonal resident of Rangeley and Avon since the age of 16. He loved Maine and the people of Maine. He was a steward of the land he owned and loved in Avon and Phillips.

He was self-employed for the past four years as a consulting engineer preparing mechanical/electrical contract drawings and specifications, primarily for schools.

Employed 29 years by Suffolk County Department of Public Works, he retired in 1991. He started at the public works as Mechanical Engineer, was promoted to an Associate Civil Engineer, then Associate Mechanical Engineer and finally Principal Mechanical Engineer. His responsibilities included supervision of all the Buildings Division staff, mechanical and electrical engineering personnel plus setting criteria and reviewing the work of engineering consultants.

Suffolk County projects included the design and construction of mechanical and electrical systems in all types of municipal buildings and facilities, such as: office buildings, storage/warehouse buildings, health centers, skilled nursing facilities, highway maintenance facilities, detention facilities, courts, police stations, parks, marinas, etc.

In 1988, the department began the switch to computer aided design and drafting. Proper supervision of the engineering staff made it necessary to acquire a working knowledge of Autocad and other third party CAD software.

Prior to the public works department, his experience included a year and a half as Town Engineer for the Town of Brookhaven, four years as a mechanical engineer with the Hazeltine Electronics Corp. at Little Neck, N.Y. and a year with General Signal Corp. at Rochester, N.Y. as an application engineer.

Technical societies include: member of the American Congress of Surveying and Mapping, American for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, National Fire Protection Association, past member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers Inc.

Arthur was blessed with three daughters, two sons, two brothers, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a loving wife.
