Jerks of Grass to play at Sugarloaf
CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Jerks of Grass, a high energy bluegrass quartet from Portland, will headline Sugarloaf’s annual Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 10 when they play live on the Beach starting at 1 p.m.
One of Maine’s top live acts, Jerks of Grass have played more than 1,200 shows throughout New England and have been voted Portland’s Best Roots/Acoustic act on seven different occasions. With one foot in the traditional and the other in progressive roots music, Jerks of Grass have forged a sound all their own.
Jerks of Grass features founding members Jason Phelps (guitar, mandolin, vocals) and acoustic music veteran Carter Logan (banjo, dobro, guitar). Rounding out the group are newest members Kris Day (upright and electric bass) who has toured the U.S. with artists like Link Wray & Ronnie Dawson and fiery fiddler Melissa Bragdon whose speed is matched only by her style and versatility.
Priding themselves on tight arrangements, stellar musicianship and an ability to delight even the most suspicious of audiences, Jerks of Grass have remained one of the area’s busiest acts for over 10 years.
The show will be part of the new “Beach Party” at this year’s Homecoming Weekend, featuring a beer tent, wine tastings, bonfire, BBQ, free fly casting lessons and fun giveaways from local TV personality and DJ Greg Powers.
