AVON — On Sept. 25, all 11 students of Maine School of Masonry gathered together to clean and restore a historic brick sidewalk located on Church Street in Farmington.
The sidewalk is one of the last remaining sections of original brick walkway in the Town of Farmington. This year’s students (Class of 2010) are continuing the restoration work performed by the Class of 2009 previously.
As part of the curriculum at Maine School of Masonry, students are asked to participate in various Volunteer Community Projects for churches, towns and schools throughout the year.
This year’s class has done restoration work at the Eaton Methodist and First Baptist Churches in Livermore Falls and the Congregational Church in Phillips. Several more projects are planned for this year, including the replacement of the chimney at the Old Red Schoolhouse building now located at the Farmington Fair Grounds and repairs of the sign at the new Masonic Hall in East Wilton.
