MTA JV, 4 – Dirigo, 0

SALEM — On Thursday, Sept. 24 a junior varsity squad from Dixfield arrived in Salem to take on the Roadrunners’ JV program.

Much to the appreciation of the Mt. Abram fans, the Roadrunners walked off the field with a 4-0 shut out.

With the win, the Mt. Abram boys’ junior varsity program, under Coach Jim Danala, remain undefeated.

Look for the JV squad to host Mtn. Valley on Friday, Oct. 9 in a 4:30 p.m. match-up.

VARSITY

Georges Valley, 1 – MTA, 0 (OT)

THOMASTON –- There was not much that Mt. Abram Keeper Josh Beedy could do with one second remaining in the first overtime with the game locked scoreless.

It was Mt. Abram’s turn to take the long drive to face the higher ranked Georges Valley club on Monday, Sept. 28.

In a heartbreaking decision by those in stripes, officials called for a direct kick which sent Georges Valley’s Chris Wilgras to tee it off against a strong Roadrunner wall.

The seeing-eye shot managed to clear the wall, find it way over the head and out of the reach of Beedy to tuck under the cross bar for the sudden death win.

Beedy had a strong afternoon saving 10 shots on the day.

Georges Valley (6-1-1) out-shot the Roadrunners 11-6 on the afternoon.

Livermore Falls, 1 – MTA, 0

SALEM –- A lack of “scoring” offense by Mt. Abram (or just some great goal keeping by Andies’ Willie Brown) was the difference in this Roadrunner loss. Brown single handedly kept his Livermore team in the game.

The Roadrunners hosted the Andies on Oct. 1 and dropped their third straight 1-0 loss in this Mountain Valley Conference contest.

The Roadrunner’s outplayed, out-shot and outran the Andies (5-3-1) and put the ball on net 12 times. Brown came up in the right place at the right time, saving 12 in a game which featured Mt. Abram (5-4) with the ball advantage. MTA out-shot the opponent 12-4 in this battle.

Twenty-five minutes into the second half with the game knotted at 0, Livermore’s Ian Wilcox took the long throw which was headed by teammate Kyle Wittemore. The ball was redirected perfectly for the game-winning goal.

The two teams now have split their regular season play with a win each and are likely candidates for a possible post season match-up.
